2/6/03 Visit to Children's Hospital
Josh Hansen along with some Supercross Super Heroes visit Children's Hospital. A group of supercross riders (and one top freestyler) took time today to stop by Loma Linda University Children's Hospital right outside of San Bernardino, California. Team Honda's Natham Ramsey, SoBe Suzuki's Danny Smith, Yamaha of Troy's Josh Hansen, Yamaha/SoBe freestyle motocrosser Trevor Vines, and four-time AMA National Motocross and Supercross Champion Jeff Emig all stopped by the hospital as a group today to visit the children's ward. They were there at the invitation of Steve Bauer, himself a former top California motocrosser from back in the day. Bauer organized the visit and deserves a pat on the back for making the day for a bunch of young fans. "It was a total success," said Bauer of the visit. "Everyone was smiling and the kids really appreciated it. It could not have possibly gone off better than it did."

1/4/03 Round 1 Anahiem SX
ANAHEIM, Calif. (January 4, 2003) - Chad Reed pushed his Yamaha to his second career 250cc win in THQ World Supercross GP in front of a sold-out Edison International Field (45,050 fans). Team Honda'sTravis Preston, who is the defending 125cc Western Regional Supercross champion, was victorious in tonight's 125cc Western Regional event - his second in Anaheim.

Kawasaki rider Mike Brown won the $1,500 SXGP.com holeshot award with Reed and Honda's Mike LaRocco in tow. Brown's lead diminished as Reed moved into the lead. Two-time defending champion Ricky Carmichael, of Havana, Fla., started in 10th place. On lap two, while moving through the field, Carmichael crashed and fell into last place. One lap later, he crashed again.

Team Suzuki's Travis Pastrana and LaRocco were in a heated battle for several laps before LaRocco went down, causing a freight train of crashes, including Pastrana and Michael Byrne. The debacle helped Carmichael's pursuit to the front. Reed finished first, Carmichael second and Ferry third.

Preston, of Hesperia, Calif., moved into the lead on lap four of the 125cc main, passing early leaders Christopher Gosselaar and Andrew Short. Team Kawasaki's James Stewart, who finished second in last year's 125cc supercross season, started 21st out of 22 riders after a poor start. The catch-up game for the Kawasaki rider played through second place. Preston was first followed by Stewart and Short in third.

"I don't know if the crowd was behind me because James (Stewart) was behind me," said Preston. "I had fast lap times all night, but I fell in my heat race, so I was riding around in seventh place."

The sellout was supercross' ninth in the last 10 events at Edison International Field, dating to the 1999 season.
